Delightful Decor Accents
If you want to dip your toes in the waters of black and white stripe decor, let’s start by sprinkling in some small but mighty decor accents. Think black and white striped vases, picture frames, and even lampshades. These little touches can pull your look together without feeling overdone. Here are a few pieces that recently caught my eye.
- Ira Striped Table Lamp – I love the all black shade on this table lamp. side note: if you want the real deal, check out the Tera Lamp by Ceramicah. I love this piece, but it’s beyond my budget.
- Black and White Striped Pedestal Bowl – I picked this little cutie up during the grand opening of Wayfair’s storefront in Wilmette, IL. My mom pointed it out, and even though I needed a new vase like a hole in the head, i could not get it outta my mind. It came home with me.
- Black and White Stripe Cylinder Vase – This lamp was displayed right next to the pedestal bowl at Wayfair, and I keep thinking about it. I might have to go back.
- Eadie Black And White Bone Resin Decorative Tray – I love to style a coffee table with a tray. It helps wrangle all my decor pieces.
- Handmade Modern Striped Ceramic Vase SIMILAR– This handmade black and white striped ceramic vase is a stunner. It stopped me in my tracks on Etsy.
- Trixie Small Black & White Striped Bone Box – style your coffee table with a box to stash all my remotes. They help contain the clutter.
- Pleated Striped Lampshade – Jazz up a plain lamp with this funky black and white striped shade.
- Striped Ceramic Lamp (base only) – a steal of a deal at H&M Home. It just needs a shade.
- Black and White Abstract Striped Lamp – I ordered this lamp from TOV Furniture a few months ago, and it’s still on backorder. Right now, they estimate it will be delivered by August…I’m not holding my breath, but if you have the patience, this lamp is a great deal.
- Black and White Turkish Towels – Sometimes, a powder room just needs a fancy towel. I love this black and white one. Technically not a traditional stripe, but close enough.
Striking Statement Walls
Next up, let’s talk walls. Black and white striped wallpaper is a bold move that pays off big time if you’re looking for something striking and in your face. It instantly creates a focal point in the room and adds a touch of drama without overwhelming your space. Try it on an accent wall behind your bed, in your entryway, or even in the bathroom for a little unexpected pizzazz. Pro tip: Vertical stripes can make your ceilings look higher, so it’s perfect for smaller spaces!
- Broken Stripe Wallpaper – These offset organic stripes are super playful and will pop in any room.
- Two-Tone Stripe Grasscloth Wallpaper – add texture to your room with this grasscloth wall covering.
- Removable Black and White Lines Wallpaper – If you want a modern statement without commitment, try a peel and stick wallpaper like this one.
- Black and White Diagonal Stripes Wallpaper – For an eclectic modern twist, try this diagonal stripe pattern. This play on the traditional straight line pattern is a great way to create a modern and unique accent wall that pops! BTDubs, this is also removable wallpaper.
To cut the cost of wallpaper, you can roll up your sleeves and DIY your black and white stripes. All you need is SW Black Tricorn, SW Snowbound paint, Frog Tape (the painter’s tape you want for crisp, straight lines), and a laser level for perfect stripes. Yes, this option is a bit labor-intensive, but if you can borrow the laser level, it’s one of the best budget-friendly decor option.
Fabulous Furniture Finds
Furniture with black and white stripes can be a game-changer. Imagine a sleek striped armchair in your living room or a set of dining chairs that pop. These pieces add a whimsical yet classy touch. Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns! Stripes play well with florals, geometrics, and even animal prints. The key is to keep a cohesive color palette to ensure everything ties together beautifully.
- Rico Swivel Lounge Chair – I’ve had my eye on this chair since I first spied it on Pinterest. I’m also digging the matching ottoman — I can just picture two of them in front of the fireplace. There is also a matching striped sofa.
- Rico Striped Pouf – This is the matching ottoman, and yes, I’m manifesting these beauties to sit in front of the limestone fireplace.
- Bone Inlay Nighstand with 2 Drawers – I love the modern look of bone inlay, and this nightstand would look fabulous n my guest room.
- Vintage “Diplomat” Sofa by John Home for HK Furniture – If you’re looking for the funky Kelly Wearstler style, then this sofa is for you. That is if you have the budget because vintage does not always mean affordable.
- Graphic Stripes Coffee Table – This coffee table from Anthropologie is great because it comes in 3 different diameters.
- Mardones Lounge Chair Piano Domino – Love the broken lines on this. It gives it a funky post-modern look and feel.
- Mid-Century Ash Solid Wood Frame Accent Chair – This chair is Model II with a brown wood frame, but there is also a black wood frame as well.
While attending the Design Influencers Conference, I spied this black and white striped sofa by Norwalk, and I was a smitten kitten. This is Somerset sofa from the Kim Salmela Collection upholstered in Normance fabric (BTDubs, I’m also loving the Teodora fabric).
This rectangular black and white bone inlay table makes a bold statement without overpowering the space. It also pops the linen phonograph sculpture.
This black and white bone inlay accent table with brass base was purchased for my One Room Challenge home office makeover. The graphic pattern is a bit more subtle than the bold black and white stripe rectangular table in the living room.
Perfect Pillows and Throws
If you’re not ready to commit to big changes, accessories are your best friends. Striped pillows and throws are an easy and affordable way to update your room. Toss a few on your sofa or bed for an instant lift. Combine them with solid-colored cushions in bright hues like mustard yellow or teal for a modern eclectic look. A striped throw draped over a chair or the edge of your bed adds just the right amount of cozy charm.
- Painterly Striped Pillow – I own the extra long lumbar pillow (see next image), but after trying it on the teal sofa (see further below), I think these square pillows would look great styled here.
- Striped Throw Pillows – This affordable set of 2 pillows is from Amazon. you can check out all my Amazon must haves here.
- Striped 100% Cotton Woven Throw – I’d drape this throw over a sofa or dress up the end of your bed.
- Striped Sheet Set – If you checked out my best sheets for a good night’s sleep round-up, you know my favorite bedding is Brooklinen. These sheets are technically graphite and not black but tomato/tomato, am I right?
- Black and White Monochrome Stripe Cushion – this linen lumbar pillow has more of a laid back farmhouse look and feel.
- Black and White Striped Extra-Long Lumbar Pillow – I finally bought this striped pillow designed by Sarah Sherman Samuels for my living room. The black stripes have a painted look and feel, giving the fabric a more organic look. BTDubs, it’s also available in different colors, shapes, and sizes.
Dazzling Drapes and Rugs
Don’t overlook your windows and floors! Striped curtains can elongate your windows and make your room feel taller. They add a touch of sophistication while still looking fun and fresh. These are giving Beetlejuice, so if using stripes as window treatments feel too bold, try a black and white striped rug to tie the whole room together. Remember, the key to mastering the modern eclectic vibe is balance—don’t be afraid to mix in different textures and patterns to create depth and interest.
- Danton Striped Jute Rug – available in two additional colorways
- Calm Kelim Rug – modern pattern infused with the timeless craftsmanship of traditional kelim techniques makes this a classic piece for years to come
- Ralph Lauren Canyon Stripe Patch Hand Woven Rug – a fun graphic twist on the traditional black and white stripe
- Jonathan Adler Op Art Charcoal Rug – this is a washable rug from Ruggable. It’s also available on Amazon.
This vintage black striped kilim rug was not the proper size for my living room—it was way too small—so I layered it over a plain tan jute rug.
Use Black And White Stripes to Pop Color
I love the look of over-the-top, colorful homes, but rarely decorate with vibrant colors — case in point, the DeNimes paint in the living room was a complete fail. I tend to use bold colors as accent decor. When paired with black and white stripes, everything pops, giving my room a funky modern eclectic look and feel. Check out the Sarah Sherman Samuels bolster pillow with the teal sofa in the living room.
