No Makeup Home Tour

We all see celebrities, actresses, beauty bloggers and Kardashians posting no makeup selfies. The #ijustwokeuplikethis candid shot. A genuine look underneath at all the time and effort that goes into looking beautiful. Some still look stunning and others absolutely hideous. But in a weird way it makes that person more relatable. Every blemish and flaw is exposed. They are more normal.

No Makeup Home Tour hosted by House of Hipsters — what a blogger's home looks like in real life.

Over the last year, I’ve been wanting to host a home tour that was a bit out of the ordinary. Something authentic. A real glimpse behind the curtain of Instagram and into the everyday life of the home decor blogger. When not every pillow is perfectly karate chopped and not every bed is made. After months of planning, I threw it out there thinking for sure this would take convincing. But I sent out an email anyway, asking a few of my bloggery besties to join me, crossed my fingers, and hoped for the best. Much to my surprise, an incredibly talented group (all listed below…please go visit their home tours as well) stepped forward ready to bare it all. Welcome to the No Makeup Home Tour.

Finding Inspiration — Trending Terra Cotta, Rouge and Mauve

Last week I was invited to a design summit in Minneapolis sponsored by Cambria. (For which this post is not sponsored, but I really wanted to share because I returned fired up.) I walked in thinking inspiration for the kitchen and walked out thinking let’s makeover the entire house. We toured the Cambria Processing Facility, and got to see the secret sauce of creating quartz countertops…BTDubs, there is one countertop they are in the process of designing and boy oh boy did they nail it. I wish I could show you, but alas, no photos were allowed. Our group was the first in the world to even lay eyes on it. And let me tell you, I about knocked over Ashley to pet it.

Creating A Vintage Modern Home Office

Vintage modern home office? Hmmm, if that’s not a dichotomy, I’m not sure what is. There may not be such a design style, but that’s the look I’m for in my home office. Last year I ditched my old white IKEA cabinets and tabletop for an old vintage pine desk. Kind of a nod to my dining room table and keeping the theme of mixing old wood with glam Hollywood Regency brass chairs. Now that I’m spending more time here, I’m bound and determined to pretty this space up.

Slowly but surely it’s coming together, but I owe a lot of inspiration to Pinterest. Every night I’m lying in bed, pinning unique home offices that catch my eye…taking special notice when I see a beat up old wood desk. But if it’s a space I love, I ask myself, “what elements can I take from here for my home”.

Pink & Green Modern Living Room

Sometimes I like to play if I had a million dollars, I might makeover my living room. Late at night I start scrolling through Pinterest and get lost for hours. The other day, a funky green tufted sofa caught my eye, and it got me thinking. That beauty would look mighty fine combo’d up with a pretty pink somethin’ somethin’. About 3 hours later, this is what I came up with…because when you’re unemployed, you have time to be creative and play around.

And now that we will all singing Barenaked Ladies for the remainder of the day, let’s gather up all our monopoly money, play pretend, and spend that paper.

Home Office Workspace

I spend a lot of time in front of the computer…and I mean a lot. Half of the week, I’m in the city for work. The other half, I’m at home. Don’t be giggling and thinking, “You mean you’re sitting on your couch eatin’ bonbons with the phone in your hand, right.” Ummmm, wrong. Couldn’t be further from the truth.

Because I spend so much time in my home office, I want this workspace to be filled with the vintage goodness I love. After the move, this space became a mish mosh dumping ground for lonely flea finds and junk that didn’t have a home. A cluttered, frustrating mess. Slowly but surely it’s been transforming, and I’ve been sharing the evolution on Instagram (mostly Stories), but I haven’t shared it here. I know…bloggery failure! But I promise to make it up to you in this post. Buckle down the chin strap because you’re in for a year’s worth tweaking and rearranging my home office. Let’s go!
