While perusing Pinterest, I recently came across a new bedding company called Parachute Home, and the caption under the image was “What do you love about your bedroom?” Hmmm, do I love my bedroom? Well, that’s a really good question. Not really. Well, not now anyway, but I will…as soon as I finish this bedroom makeover. We moved into our home over 4 years ago, and I’m finally getting around to designing and styling this space. I mean sure, we purchased some nice bedding and a new Tempur-Pedic mattress right away to make it feel fresh, but I chose to focus my design efforts more on the main floor. A space that my guests would see.
In retrospect, focusing on the master first might have been the smarter idea. I mean, the bedroom is the one room where we spend most of our time, right? Maybe not awake, but still, if I had to take a guess, I’d say 40% of my day is spent in the bedroom. Experts say bedroom disorder can weigh on your subconscious and hamper your sleep. And according to Christa O’Leary of Home in Harmony, “Your bed and bedroom should be a sanctuary where you’re able to rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit.” It should be one of those safe havens for relaxation. And really, is there anything better than crawling into a tightly made bed with crisp clean freshly laundered sheets? It makes my toes curl just to think about it.
Well, presently my master bedroom is in disarray. And I’m serious when I say complete and utter disaster zone. I refuse to photograph it. I’m in the process of giving it a proper makeover; something more than just new bedding. Presently, I have 4 nightstands (2 old, 2 new), 3 dressers (1 old, 2 new…well, vintage slash new-to-me), a chair, a side table, and a new bed. Yep, that’s a lot of random furniture. Told you it was a mess. But when it’s cleared out, rearranged, and put back together, it’s going to look A-MAZING!
I’ve been working with interior designer extraordinaire, Jennifer Harrison, some of you may know her as @fleamarketfab on Instagram. Our color palette is navy, coral, soft blush, and white. Since the 2 vintage dressers are Mid-Century Modern (of course), the space suddenly took on a very masculine feel. Adding the coral and blush (Jen’s suggestion) softened the space and added a much-needed feminine touch. I’m just loving how it’s all coming together. The coral pillows are really going to pop against the navy velvet tufted headboard. I also found the most perfect crisp white bedding at Parachute Home. If you’re unsure which color or fabric to choose, I suggest ordering a few swatches.
We’ve also been looking at artwork for the room. We wanted something calming yet modern, and feminine to balance out the masculine MCM. I suggested, “Dipped Girl” from My Deer Art Shop. Jen immediately agreed. Her mother has a print of “Young Girl Reading” in her home that Jen has always been fond of. I swear, she and I are two peas in a pod.
Most importantly, I love it when my bedroom has a luxurious scent. Right now I’m quite fond of this candle called Fireside. It reminds me of the time we spent at Camp Wandawega, toasting marshmallows by the campfire and listening to the lake water lap against the shore.
Do you guys love your bedroom? What do you like about your bedroom? Since I’m in the middle of this makeover, I’d love to hear any suggestions and advice you might have to make my space the most perfect serene space. Do you have a favorite color? Favorite scent? How about artwork…do you have family photos or paintings on the walls?

Haha, I’m the same way. I’d redo the living room five times over before I’d get to the other rooms of the house. Lately, I have a refound love for blues, keeping it simple and not too intense for a nice chilled-out atmosphere. That throw from Parachute is lovely, by the way. I could totally see myself snuggling up in that one!

My sister-in-law has a Tempurpedic mattress in the guest room and we enjoyed it during our stay. But I still feel comfortable with my posture-pedic and decided to keep it for now and redecorate the bedroom a bit instead.

SunshineThe Temperpedic definitely took a bit of getting use to, but we like it. But I’m in agreement with you, if your existing mattress is comfy, put your money into the decor. It’s much prettier to look at =)

Very cool bed. I bet you didn’t feel like getting out of it.
