I just signed up for the New Year New Room Challenge 2024 hosted by my friend Stephanie from Casa Watkins Home. She hosts this tradition annually and challenges a few friends (linked at the bottom of this post) and me to refresh a space in our homes, document it, and share the progress weekly for January. Some of us will tackle a large space, but I chose a smaller project and will organize my kitchen pantry with a little jazzy makeover to kick off the new year.
Behold, My Incredibly Messy Kitchen Pantry

When you see photos of my kitchen remodel, I never share what’s behind the black antique door. Wanna know why? Well, because it’s a hot freaking mess! I live with a 13-year-old and an 11-year-old, who are both fairly self-sufficient, but organization is not their jam. I also have ADHD, so I clean out and reorganize the panty, but in two days, it’s a disaster zone again.

I’ve set expectations, knowing this space will not look like it belongs in Leanne Ford’s kitchen. There will still be colorful cereal boxes, and nothing will be labeled perfectly; however, I want it to be sustainable. Clever organization ideas that last.
Also, I don’t want to spend a lot of money. The holidays have just wrapped up, and we have a family vacation on the horizon. I’m also down for the trending “No Buy January” idea. That is probably an impossible ask for this refresh, but I have quite a few organizing bins on hand, so I’m walking into this feeling like I can achieve this New Year New Room refresh on a budget.
I’d also like to reorganize the kitchen cabinets if I have extra time (and if the budget allows), but let’s not get too crazy. We’re setting real expectations, and I will do what I can in a limited time frame.
If you’d like to participate in the challenge, we’d love you to join the fun! This isn’t mandatory, but if you have an Instagram account, we’d love for you to share your progress and use the hashtag #newyearnewroomchallenge — by using the hashtag, we can see it! Be sure to visit my bloggery friends to see what projects they have on deck!
