Design Your Eclectic Modern Living Room For Less

When you look at this first living room mood board, you will likely see pieces very similar to what I have in my living room. A gal loves what she loves, am I right? The ivory-colored sofa is comfortable and casual, but the cushions have structure to them so that when you stand, the couch cushions won’t look like a hot mess. 

For a pop of color, I added a rust-colored velvet chair, and for something graphic, this black-and-white table. Yes, it’s similar to the one I have in my home. Because the sofa is a more transitional piece, it could be traditional or modern, depending on the vibe. The accent pieces in this living room mode board add to the modern eclectic vibe I’m going for.

I love the masculine look of this chunky modern brown leather sofa, but I wanted to bring in the mid-century modern aesthetic to balance out the look. The clean lines of the coffee table and the accent table are just the right mix needed. 

The pops of blue in the art and the vase complement the warm brown leather, and the metals in the tables and floor lamp keep the eye moving.

While scrolling through the Ashley site, the denim blue sofa immediately caught my eye. I love the clean lines and chunky armrests. It’s a simple, clean look.

You’ll notice that in almost every room design that I create, I use a mix of different materials. In this mood board there’s metal on the coffee table and the base of the chairs, the bouclé and velvet upholstery, and the rattan floor lamp. Mixing different materials helps carry through the eclectic decor style. 

The last living room mood board has a transitional look and feel, but the mid-century modern task lamp and accent chair help skew the design to the eclectic side. The gold accent table, vases, and abstract art (I rotated it 90 degrees) give it the extra push it needs.

For extra credit, I created a modern, eclectic bedroom mood board. That clean, modern headboard pulled at my post-modern loving heart when I found the bed. I paired it with mid-century, modern nightstands and a comfy chair for your morning coffee and added a whimsical, floral floor lamp.

To save space on the surface of the nightstands, I chose small table lamps with round crystal ball bases. If you find that you need more room, you can always check out Ashley’s wall sconces.
