I’m by no means a professional photographer, but I do love some time behind the lens. My obsession first started way back when I worked for a furniture company. I was one of the lead designers directed every photo shoot, and worked with some great photographers who taught me how to light a set and how to work a DSLR. Studios were just starting to change over from film, and digital cameras were megabucks.
What’s In My Camera Bag
On a trip to Spain and Morocco, I coaxed my sister into letting me borrow her Canon Rebel film camera. Falling in love with film, I discovered Lomography and stumbled upon the Holga. Who knew you could have a love affair with a $25 plastic boxy camera. That’s when operation buy a nicer camera went into effect, but sweet sister sold me hers. Vintage cameras started to make their way into my home from flea markets, eBay, Etsy, estate sales. A favorite is a Flexerette VII that was purchased in Prague.
Even though I love everything about film cameras, it wasn’t instant, and developing services became virtually extinct. I decided to break down and buy a DSLR. After reaching out to photographer friends, I landed on a Canon 20D. Their advice was to buy a cheaper body and throw more money at a nice lens. Since that purchase, I’ve upgraded to the Canon 5D Mark II. If you have the means, that camera is a dream. I love absolutely everything about it and try to carry it everywhere (along with my Holga).
What Camera Bag Do I Own?
Since I’m always interested in what other photographers carry in their bags, I figured I’d share exactly what is in my camera bag. Oh and speaking of bags, I must mention this, I’ve owned quite a few, the Epiphanie backpack is my new love. It holds everything I need including my 17″ MacBook pro. There’s also room for a small sketchbook, extra batteries, and chargers. What’s in your camera bag?
