Have you ever attended an estate sale? I was surprised to learn many have not. Yes, walking into a complete stranger's home can be intimidating, but estate sales are where you'll find the best vintage decor for the best prices. Because not everyone is versed in this art of secondhand shopping, I decided to write a complete guide on how t[...]
When Marianne Brown emailed me out of the blue and said, "Hey, my home is unique, cool, and eclectic, would you like to feature it on your blog?" I said, "Heck ya I would! Home tours are hella fun." Why do I like featuring homes that don't belong to me? If you guessed, "Kyla, you're that total weirdo that looks into homes o[...]
I got 99 problems but a pillow ain't one...well, that is until I try mixing patterns. Then I have all sorts of issues, but that's a totally different blog post. My workaround is if you buy enough pillows eventually you find the perfect mix. Solves all problems, am I right? Most rooms in the new house are really starting to com[...]
A while back, a group of us talked about how all the big wig sites post who to follow on Instagram if you love home decor. Ya, ya, we all know Emily Henderson's Insta feed is fabulous. And how could we ever forget about Design Sponge? Oh, and always include SFGIRLBYBAY for some serious California chic eye candy. Don't get[...]
Sometimes, I have a really hard time falling asleep. My mind is racing about a work deadline, a blog post idea, my oldest getting in trouble at school, my youngest deciding to cut her own hair, random errands I forgot to run, a unicorn bell I sold on Chairish and totally forgot to ship. You know, normal life chaos is something that every[...]
A couple of years ago, I virtually met Ashley Redmond when we worked with Decorist to redesign my guest bedroom. I must admit, I had a tiny girl crush on her when I checked out her portfolio. She's this super cool interior design chick, who has killer style and practices yoga...and she was going to help me design my living room in m[...]
We are going strong here in renovation land, and I gotta say, install day is quickly becoming the Kyla's really happy day. It's when everything comes together, and the vision that's resided inside my head transforms into reality. AHHHHH! Last Monday, I shared the tile install in the basement bathroom, and today I'm sharing the Karndean v[...]
At the end of December, I dropped a bomb post stating I was certifiably insane. Yup, I started another bathroom renovation, but it was necessary. That basement bathroom was so dingy and yucky; there was no excuse not to update it. As long as we're getting dusty and Gerry and his crew were at the house anyway, why not knock it all ou[...]
Happy Thursday! Erica Reitman, The Design Ninja Extraordinaire, is stopping over today to talk about how to start a collection. I don't know about you, but I've got a ton...trophies, indigo, navy books, vintage barware...errrrmmmm *cough* chairs...ya let's not go there. But sometimes it all goes in a box, and I never know what to do with[...]
