Tuesdays are for __________. My answer? Cocktail time! I know, I know, it’s been such a long time since I shared a fun cocktail recipe, but I’m going to make it up to you by hitting you with a doozy. Now, normally after a couple weeks, I get bored with my cocktail of choice, and I have to change it up. But, this one has been on heavy rotation since my New Year’s Eve party. I thought the Champagne Smash was going to be the cocktail of choice that night, but boy was I wrong. Everyone kept saying, “Hey Kyla! Can you make me another one of those orange guys?” Sure thing! Comin’ right up.

MORE AFTER THE JUMP…

This boozy beverage was first introduced to me at a favorite local haunt. A tiny little place called Tokio Pub. On Sundays they offer bottomless noodle bowls, so we come hungry. I’ve become an expert at slurping up ramen, and of course I pair it with at least one two Orange Blossoms. A citrus delight. Not a bad way to wrap up the weekend if I say so myself.

I will give you fair warning, it has one fancy ingredient that can prove to be a bit difficult to locate if you don’t live near a wine shop. Sparkling Sake. But not to fret, you can make it without, if you must. My 2 suggestions are Banzai Bunny Sparking Sake (Every once in a blue moon, I find the peach flavor and my heart goes pitter-patter. Scoop it up if you can find it.) or Hana Awaka. Go to any wine shop or large liquor store that carries a variety of wines. I’m pretty much going to guarantee that you will not find this sparkling surprise at the local supermarket, but if you think you’re feeling lucky, try in the rice wine section.

If you tuned into my Periscope last Friday night, you already know I gave a behind the scenes glimpse at how I shoot a cocktail recipe. If you don’t know what Periscope is, go to the iTunes Store and download it stat. It’s a fun little app of streaming video that you watch live, raw, and uncut. Basically viewing the world, live, through someone else’s eyes. Personally, I’m addicted to it. Last Friday, I scoped my basement, my incredibly messy office, and the drink recipe setup for this post. Scoping is incredibly nerve-wracking and after watching the replay, I noticed that I say the word “like” a lot! So, if you want to see me keep making a fool out of myself, just tune into Periscope and follow @houseofhipsters I’m contemplating a fun and random Q&A session from my train every night at 5PM. What do you think?

Anyhoo, you guys ready for the deets on this little ditty? Let’s get mixing!

INGREDIENTS

Double Jigger Orange Vodka (I prefer Grey Goose L’Orange)
Double Jigger Lillet Blanc
A Good Splash of Simple Syrup*
1/2 oz Lemon Juice
Orange Juice to taste…some like it strong, some like it weak. You decide.
Sparkling Sake to be used as a float.

DIRECTIONS

Mix all the ingredients minus the Sparkling Sake in a cocktail shaker and add ice. Shake well and strain into glass with fresh ice. Leave enough room in your glass to add a float of Sparkling Sake to the top of the drink. Enjoy!

*To make the simple syrup, you will need 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup water. In a medium sauce pan, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Cool and keep refrigerated in a glass jar for 1 month.

Like the grid drink tray and the black and white check print napkins? Get them over at Unison! Oh and that amazing pitcher and stirring spoon are from there as well. Check ’em out!
