Creating A Vintage Modern Home Office

Vintage modern home office? Hmmm, if that’s not a dichotomy, I’m not sure what is. There may not be such a design style, but that’s the look I’m for in my home office. Last year I ditched my old white IKEA cabinets and tabletop for an old vintage pine desk. Kind of a nod to my dining room table and keeping the theme of mixing old wood with glam Hollywood Regency brass chairs. Now that I’m spending more time here, I’m bound and determined to pretty this space up.

Slowly but surely it’s coming together, but I owe a lot of inspiration to Pinterest. Every night I’m lying in bed, pinning unique home offices that catch my eye…taking special notice when I see a beat up old wood desk. But if it’s a space I love, I ask myself, “what elements can I take from here for my home”.

Home Office Workspace

I spend a lot of time in front of the computer…and I mean a lot. Half of the week, I’m in the city for work. The other half, I’m at home. Don’t be giggling and thinking, “You mean you’re sitting on your couch eatin’ bonbons with the phone in your hand, right.” Ummmm, wrong. Couldn’t be further from the truth.

Because I spend so much time in my home office, I want this workspace to be filled with the vintage goodness I love. After the move, this space became a mish mosh dumping ground for lonely flea finds and junk that didn’t have a home. A cluttered, frustrating mess. Slowly but surely it’s been transforming, and I’ve been sharing the evolution on Instagram (mostly Stories), but I haven’t shared it here. I know…bloggery failure! But I promise to make it up to you in this post. Buckle down the chin strap because you’re in for a year’s worth tweaking and rearranging my home office. Let’s go!

One Room Challenge – Office Makeover

Patience is not a virtue of mine. Albeit convenient, online shopping obviously lacks immediate gratification. And when you’re in a time crunch like the One Room Challenge where you pick one room to transform from hot mess to hallelujah and only have 6 weeks to do so, well, waiting a week for deliveries was probably not my smartest move. I’m now thinking instead of napping last Sunday, I really should have driven my lazy bum to West Elm to buy blush pillows and blue vases. Instead I chose to buy them off the interwebs and sleep. Now I pay the price and pace like a caged animal. I also have to apologize up front. My lighting acted up while shooting, so you’ll have to excuse the mediocre iPhone imagery in this post. Hopefully I’ll get this snafoo repaired before next week’s shoot. Hey! One Room Challenge! You’re kicking my anxiety into over drive!

The One Room Challenge Home Office interior design makeover is in Week 4, and I've been styling vignettes.
