Bar Cart Styling

The awesomeness of the bar cart was first introduced to me years ago by the always fabulous Mrs. Lilien. Her boozy concoctions always resting on beautiful brass and glass. I longed to sit poolside with her highness, in Palm Springs, dressed in a bright flowy kaftan, sipping libations, garnished with a juicy chunk of pineapple and a pink umbrella. Yes, I know, that was very specific. But then I awake from my fanciness to face the reality of my two young children. Ha! I love them, but that party on wheels is so not happening. Besides, I partake in a drink or two, but not enough to require a full on bar cart. The Boy is primarily a beer drinker…German beer…specifically Kolsch. Bar cart styling was not in my near future. Whomp. Whomp.

15 Planners For 2015

I don’t know about you guys, but for me, buying a planner is a big damn deal. There are certain things I that are must haves. View by month section and view by week section with a break out of days and hours. Added bonus for “to-do lists” and a notes section. A big plus if there’s a pocket included. I like my planners to be fun. A little spunky, kinda like me. So today I’ve gathered up my favorite planners for 2015.

DIY Holiday Gift Tag Printable

When Grace from The Big Reveal ask me to design holiday gift tags for her “Creative Ways to Package Holiday Cookies” post, I kinda jumped for joy (and declared myself insane). That’s totally normal, right? I know, I know, it sounds weird especially since we spent the entire week cranking out the Wildwood Speakeasy New Year’s Eve party last week. Grace had leverage though. She bribed me by showcasing them on Twin Cities Live today. And I can now say I was on TV…well, kinda. Ok, ok, my holiday gift tags were on TV with Laura’s nuts…technically NOT me, but hey, I’ll take it! At least I can say I know a TV star! Besides, I had started designing these a while back but became too busy to finish, but still itching to complete. This was just the nudge shove I needed to put on the final touches (and finally decide on a color scheme). I mean, they’ve only been sitting on my desktop since October. (I might be a bit of a procrastinator.)

the midas touch — styling with gold

gold and brass…i heart it, vases, lamps, bowls, tables…pops here and there…reflecting light all around a room…the shiny surface can give an object more dimension and draws the eye in. even the smallest gold detail can have a big impact…it makes everything just sparkle, and lately, i can’t get enough of it…it’s in my house, on my wrists, around my neck, on my feet…yes, it can easily get gaudy if over done, but when used as an accessory here and there it looks so glam and lux.

got a vintage piece that needs a little sumthin’ sumthin’? DIY that sucka! give that puppy a new life by grabbing some metallic spray paint asap…get creative and stick that pretty little thing on a shelf already. it seriously could not be any easier…just tape it off, go outside, and spray to your heart’s content.

when you use gold or brass in unexpected ways it can be so much fun…spray just the legs of a table…spray the inside of a lamp shade…spray a third of the bottom of an old glass vase unevenly for a fresh dipped look…maybe just the hooks on an old coat rack.
