The new house has posed many furniture challenges. Coming from an open concept to more of a traditional layout has proven to be difficult. One cannot take a living room from the old house and plop it into a new house. No sir-e-bob. Case in point, our beloved sectional. Well, both sectionals actually…fondly known as couchzilla. In an open concept space, they looked welcoming and comfy. At the old house, I’d flop down on that bad boy after a long hard day, cocktail in hand, and pin the night away. Not so much in the new space.
You wanna know who’s dripping with talent? Ashley Redmond from Decorist, that’s who. This interior design super hero crushed the mood boards for my living room project. Jojotastic, you’re going down girl.
Quick recap, you were asked to choose which mood board design I should moved forward with. You commented, emailed, direct messaged…I think I even saw a few smoke signals…and for quite a while the boards were neck and neck. Neutral Glam was ahead then it was Eclectic Vintage. I want to thank you all for weighing in. It’s been so exciting to watch it all unfold…have you been keeping up? If not, here is Part 1 and Part 2. Don’t worry, I’ll wait right here for you to catch up…I’ll just be standing here, dancing…come on, click on the jump for the mood board reveal…seriously, I have ants in my pants.

To shake things up and expand House Of Hipsters’ wings, my girl Erica Reitman (you may know her as VintageDesignMe on Snapchat, and if you don’t, go follow her now because she will make you laugh out loud…she’s also my #followfriday on Instagram today) is going to be a contributor! When I asked her, I totes expected an, “Umm, no, I don’t think so sweetie.” I mean, she writes for Elle Decor, HGTV, and Domino. So imagine my surprise when she said, “Heck yeah! Sounds like fun!” Can you say mouth on floor? Holla!!! She’s funny, sassy, and likes to swear…you’ve been warned…oh, and she claims she can kick your house’s ass. BTDubs, she can…she’s also a small space design expert. AND I love her dearly.
Truth time: I never really set out to become a small space expert. But I lived in NYC for 12 years and I was def *not* a bazillionaire, so that translated into tiny apartments with all sorts of design and space challenges. I woke up one day, and realized BOOM: I’m officially a small space design ninja.
After loads of trial and error while figuring out my small spaces, I decided I wanted to make it my mission to help others on the #smallspacesquad with me figure out easy ways to kick their tiny house’s ass.
Today I’d love to share with you 5 pieces of small space design advice that you should totally and completely ignore. I mean, you should take this advice, stomp on it, set it on fire, and then throw the ashes around in your tiny little garden. I want you to break the rules…and I mean break em’ hard.
It’s an exciting day here at House Of Hipsters. Today is the big reveal of the Decorist DesignOff mood boards, and I need your help. Hold up, are you asking yourself, “What are these mood boards you speak of?” Well, if you want the full monty, you can catch the instant replay over here on this post, but if not, here’s the quick recap. But real quick, before we get started, Decorist is offering a super generous 20% off your next design project. Just use the promo code DesignOff20 when you check out.
So here’s the dealio, my girl, Jojotastic and I recently purchased new homes, and we were both jonesing for a project…mainly because we are a glutton for punishment because who in there right mind says, “Hey I moved! Let’s get crazy”. Decorist heard the news and thought wouldn’t it be fun to have a friendly little competition and teamed us up with two of their fabulous interior designers and let you, my sweet kittens, pick which interior design board concept to move forward with…insert Weary Cat Face emoji (and yes, I had to visit the Emojipedia for that definition…and yes, there really is an emoji dictionary URL. Thank you Google.) Holy run on sentence. So I’m putting my fate into you. Well, you and Ashley Redmond my Decorist DesignOff interior designer extraordinaire. This chicky is the bomb dot com and has style for miles.
After happily agreeing to these shenanigans, I put all my trust into her with only a tiny bit of Pinspiration. But I already knew what kinda of fun I was getting myself into. Ashley and I teamed up last year and decked out the guest room in the old house; so you can only imagine how thrilled I was to learn we’d be working together again.
Wanna get into it? Let’s roll. Can I have a drum roll please…
Moving day officially arrived last Friday. It feels like it took forever, but it finally happen it, and it only took 1 semi-truck plus 1 large package truck and 8 burly men to get us out of one space and into another. Oy! It was a crazy hot day without air conditioning on the hottest day of the year (that’s a whole nuther story)…but we made it! As I was moving chairs and sofas from room to room, the space just felt like home. It didn’t feel new, but instead felt warm and cozy…like we had lived there for years. I guess that’s probably how it’s supposed to feel. However, you know how I like to shake it up…itching for something new, so I reached out to Decorist for some virtual online design fun because this one can’t hold still for long. We have dubbed this project The Decorist DesignOff.
