New Headshots Alt Summit

Since my blog photo was a selfie taken in my basement after returning from the gym (eeeek…can we say sweaty and gross…bet you’ll never look at that picture the same, huh?). I decided y’all don’t need to be lookin’ at that anymore. House Of Hipsters needed a little update. Besides, you’ve been looking at this same photo for almost 3 years now. It’s about time.

New Year’s Eve Etiquette Guide to Hostess Gifts

When I hosted my very first New Year’s Eve party, I was just past the age of keg stands in a basement. At the time, I was dating a guy who was a bit older than me, and his friends were invited. Friends who had apparently read the etiquette guide to hostess gifts. One by one they walked through the door handing me pretty packages pretty packages containing cheese boards, wine, scented candles, fancy soaps, and champagne! I’m sorry what!?!?! No one had told me about hostess gifts. The only gift I had been bringing to parties was a beer bong. This gift-giving thing had made all the cooking and cleaning and running around nonsense a whole lot more tolerable. Bring. It. On.

The New Year's Eve etiquette guide to hostess gifts. Want a unique gift to bring to your next New Year's Eve party! I have great gift ideas that your host will love!

Randolph Street Market Festival – Join Me!

Hi guys! I’ve got exciting news to share with you! (And 10 helpful tips on flea market shopping at the very bottom of this post.) I’ve been selected as one of Chicago’s top editors and designers to award blue ribbons for best in show at The Randolph Street Market Festival. Come on out and join me, Saturday, September 26, 2015, at this European-style, indoor-outdoor urban antique market to shop amazing furnishings, vintage clothing and jewelry, home decor and more. Known as the “mecca of cool” and “the best hot spot for antiquing”, The Randolph Street Market Festival was just named 1 of the 9 Flea Markets You Must Visit Before You Die by Better Homes and Garden Magazine.

So what are the blue ribbons for? Well, I pick my favorite items at the flea and you buy them. Over 40 different charities receive some of the proceeds. My charity of choice is The Jackson Chance Foundation. This charity was founded by my dear friends Carrie and Terry Meghie after they lost their son Jackson Chance. You can read his story here.

Not only do I want my home to be functional, comfortable, and affordable, but I also want it to be unique. Buying vintage tends to satisfy that individuality.
