Our Broken Basement and Luxury Vinyl Flooring?

The other week you got to read the doozy of a story about how The Boy broke the basement. A lot of you sent me sweet messages saying, I’m so sorry…oh that darn deductible. How much will that cost to fix? Can it be repaired? Chin up. This is just so awful. How on earth did a sink do this much damage? You guys, these are all these same words we’ve been saying to each other. Thank you for all the encouragement.

So what do you do when you flood the home you just bought 6 weeks prior?

After our basement flooded, we decided to install luxury vinyl flooring. It was durable, easy to clean, and best of all, water resistant.

Well, to begin with, you hope to God you included basement coverage in your insurance policy…which thankfully we did. We also, unbeknownst to us, added an inclusion for depreciation. Phew. So my advice to all you homeowners out there, go check your insurance policy…seriously, go now, I’ll wait. This is important. See what is covered and what’s not. If you have something precious, is it protected? What is the extra cost? Most of the time, it’s not much more. Also, and this should be mentioned, this was not a slow leak. A slow leak like the one in the main floor bathroom would not have been covered. This was sudden water damage…very different scenario.

Styling The Dorothy Draper Dresser with Randal Ford

While meandering around the Randolph Street Market a couple months ago, I visited one of my favorite vendors, Flower Child Vintage. Since it was the last outdoor market of the season, Flower Child outdid themselves with vintage treasures galore…but their Dorothy Draper dresser was what caught my eye. I’d been coveting one for years, but the price tag was always out of reach…that was until today. A bit higher than I’d normally spend, but this piece was worth it. A classic beauty. Sitting in Chicago traffic on the long car ride home, I thought about all the places I could put her. A Dorothy Draper dresser isn’t a piece you want to hide. Quite the contrary, you want to see her on the daily…hmmmmm, I landed on the foyer. Now to style her up.

Final Reveal – The Bathroom Makeover – One Room Challenge

It’s Week 6 of the One Room Challenge which means ding, ding, ding, times up! Words can’t even express how excited I am about the bathroom makeover. I mean wow! The transformation is crazy, and I honestly can’t believe I live here. It’s wacky and crazy and out there and pretty much describes exactly what happens in my brain. Like if you were a really tiny person and crawled into my ear to have a look around, I would imagine this is exactly what you’d see. Are you prepared for this? Put yo’ pinky rings up to the moon. Whoop, whoop!

An antique dresser was converted into a bathroom vanity. I love the eclectic wallpaper by House Of Hackney - Empire Midnight. I love the Clé Tile Cubicon cement tiles on the floor paired with white subway tile.

The goal for this bathroom was if you are a guest in my house and in the need of the lavatory, you will walked in here and forget to pee. Gerry my man, you did one hell of a job. Seriously, you brought everything that was in my head to life. If you live in the Chicago area and are in need of an amazing contractor, give this guy a buzz…and no he’s not paying me to say this. He just did an amazing job for one of the toughest clients on the planet…me.

Potty Paradise – The Bathroom Makeover

With all the Cubs hoopla, my Week 5 One Room Challenge post got a bit lost in the shuffle. But don’t you worry that pretty little head of yours, we are on schedule and feeling fly y’all. Potty Paradise is almost complete, and Gerry and I are snoopy dancing on the Clé Tiles…okay, Gerry’s technically not dancing like this, but I’m all…

One Room Challenge Bathroom Makeover dance

In Week 4, I left you with a cliff hanger…the excitement in the air was electric. Renee was here hanging the first few panels of wallpaper, and I couldn’t help but share the, “Oh my God I can’t believe I live here!” moment with you. Once those panels went up the whole space just transformed. Even The Boy’s mouth was on the floor…and it takes a lot to impress him.
