Basement Bathroom Design Update

At the end of December, I dropped a bomb post stating I was certifiably insane. Yup, I started another bathroom renovation, but it was necessary. That basement bathroom was so dingy and yuck; there was no excuse not to update it. As long as we’re getting dusty and Gerry and his crew was at the house anyway, why not knock it all out, right? Bring out the sledgehammer guys! Let’s get to work!

Basement Update — Drywall and Karndean Flooring

Thankfully things are really starting to come together on the basement. Like, I can see a light at the end of the tunnel, and it isn’t fogged up with construction dust. All in all, Gerry and his crew have made the whole process smooth sailing, but I can officially say drywalling is the worst. Word to the wise — the smartest thing we did was shrink wrapping everything exposed in the basement. The sofa, photo booth, pool table, coffee table…every single thing that was left out, was shrink wrapped, covered in tarps, and sealed up tight.

Another Bathroom Renovation?

Someone call for help because I’m certifiably insane. Yep, you read that right. Potty Paradise looked so incredible, we decided to renovate another bathroom in the new house. Eeeeep! But I swear I have a really good excuse for the added destruction. You already know we are in the process of fixing the basement after The Great Flood of 2016, but there was one small problem. The bathroom down there wasn’t destroyed by water. Well that is disappointing.

Holiday Home Tour — BSHT Christmas 2016

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but how the hell are the holidays here already? Knowing full well I’m a procrastinator, and when it comes to holiday decor, well I kinda fail; I signed up for White Buffalo Styling Co.’s BSHT 2016 Christmas Home Tour last August. Plenty of time to prepare and plan…and plan I did…in my head.

Last weekend The Boy and I talked about putting up the tree and my brain flashed back to the conversation with Lindsay. Hmmmm, wonder what week those posts goes live. Think. Think. Think. Pull up Google spreadsheet…OMG, next Wednesday. Scheisse! When it comes to Christmas, I mean well, but it always sneaks up on me…I turn around and suddenly Jack Frost is nipping at my nose. If you hopped over here from Makerista, welcome. Click around a bit before you leave, and don’t forget to hop on over to The Curated House. She’s up next in this online parade of homes. (I also list out the schedule down below cuz I like to make it easy on ya.) Let’s get to it!

House Of Hipsters Holiday Home Tour - BSHT Christmas 2016

For the last week I’ve been a busy little elf, scampering about the house. Moving this here. Moving that there. Digging through boxes that the movers just shoved anywhere convenient in the basement that was under construction. We had never decorated this new house for the holidays, but I do my best work under pressure. First things first, I definitely needed some garland for the banister.

Our Broken Basement and Luxury Vinyl Flooring?

The other week you got to read the doozy of a story about how The Boy broke the basement. A lot of you sent me sweet messages saying, I’m so sorry…oh that darn deductible. How much will that cost to fix? Can it be repaired? Chin up. This is just so awful. How on earth did a sink do this much damage? You guys, these are all these same words we’ve been saying to each other. Thank you for all the encouragement.

So what do you do when you flood the home you just bought 6 weeks prior?

After our basement flooded, we decided to install luxury vinyl flooring. It was durable, easy to clean, and best of all, water resistant.

Well, to begin with, you hope to God you included basement coverage in your insurance policy…which thankfully we did. We also, unbeknownst to us, added an inclusion for depreciation. Phew. So my advice to all you homeowners out there, go check your insurance policy…seriously, go now, I’ll wait. This is important. See what is covered and what’s not. If you have something precious, is it protected? What is the extra cost? Most of the time, it’s not much more. Also, and this should be mentioned, this was not a slow leak. A slow leak like the one in the main floor bathroom would not have been covered. This was sudden water damage…very different scenario.
